Five Michiganders are going on a cruise thanks to a second-chance online drawing, and it will soon be easier than ever to win these kinds of prizes.

If you’re like most people and simply toss your losing lottery tickets in the trash, you may want to reconsider. Those losers might actually be winners — big winners.

The latest Michiganders to cash in on the online drawing will be setting out on a five-day Caribbean cruise. It’s all because they entered the online code on their losing Cruisin’ instant game tickets.

According to the Michigan Lottery:

“Each player and a guest will enjoy a five-night western Caribbean cruises aboard the Royal Caribbean® ‘Brilliance of the Seas®.’

“Each trip includes roundtrip airfare for two to Tampa, Fla., hotel accommodations for the night before the cruise departure, limited ground transportation, and a $250 ship credit. An additional $150,000 in cash prizes also will be awarded throughout the cruise.”

The lucky winners are:

  1. Harry Crile, of Troy
  2. Timothy Gallagher, of Saline
  3. Najib Mansour, of Warren
  4. Kathy Russell, of Warren
  5. Sally Stratton, of Clinton Township

What could be better than a cruise?

The Cruisin’ instant win game is only one of many Michigan Lottery products that offer unique prizes through a second-chance drawing.

In fact, the Michigan Lottery’s $10 Golden Ticket is offering what could be the largest lottery prize in history via a second-chance drawing.

Rather than a cruise and a shot at $150,000, Golden Ticket second-chance winners will receive a trip for two to Las Vegas and a chance to win up to $1 billion.

“Players also may enter codes from non-winning tickets for a chance to win one of 15 trips for two to Las Vegas and for the opportunity to play the BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE™ and a chance to win up to $1 billion,” the Michigan Lottery website states.

Streamlining second-chance drawings

Even though the prizes are quite large, a lot of people forego the second-chance drawings, finding the process too onerous.

The good news is it will soon be even easier to enter these drawings via the Michigan Lottery website.

After “found players wanted more chances to earn bonus play, but without entering non-winning ticket codes online,” the Michigan Lottery is set to roll out a new rewards program in early 2018.

In addition to second-chance drawings from specific instant-win tickets, under the current system, ed lottery players receive two “points” for every dollar they spend on lottery products.

Points can later be cashed in for the following prizes:

  • 10 Points: $500 a Day Giveaway
  • 10 Points: $350 Instant Ticket Giveaway
  • 10 Points: $350 Online Bonus Play Giveaway
  • 1000 Points: 25% Deposit Match Online Bonus Credit
  • 1000 Points: $2 Poker Lotto Bonus Play Reward Coupon
  • 2000 Points: $4 Lucky For Life Bonus Play Reward Coupon
  • 2000 Points: $4 Powerball Bonus Play Reward Coupon
  • 2500 Points: $5 Daily 4 Bonus Play Reward Coupon
  • 2500 Points: $5 Mega Millions Bonus Play Reward Coupon
  • 2500 Points: 50% Deposit Match Online Bonus Credit
  • 5000 Points: $10 Fantasy 5 Bonus Play Reward Coupon

The new system will simplify the process of entering codes to claim points. Precisely how it will work is unclear at this time, but our best guess is it will rely on some combination of tracking online purchases, a bar code reader app to scan losing tickets, and other technology.
