The totals for Michigan online sports betting handle in June garnered less wagering in the Great Lakes State for the third consecutive month.

According to numbers released Monday by the Michigan Gaming Control Board, $235.1 million was wagered on sports last month. Since March’s $359.5 million high-water mark, online sports betting handle in the state has declined each month since. The June handle dropped 1.0% from May’s $237.6 million wagered.

June featured the NBA and NHL playoffs, U.S. Open golf and a nice surprise for the Detroit Pistons in landing the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft Lottery. However, until football season kicks off in September, you can expect comparatively modest sports betting figures.

Combined with Michigan sports betting revenue tally.

FanDuel Sportsbook still leads the way, jumping in market share

As for the operator horse race, Michigan leader BetMGM Sportsbook was third at $52.1 million in bets (22.2% share).

FanDuel jumped from a 30.0% market share in May and was one of five operators to see an increase in June handle, along with BetMGM, William Hill Sportsbook, WynnBET Sportsbook and Four Winds Sportsbook.

WynnBET increased its May handle by 285%, taking $5.46 million in sports bets, a 2.3% market share. That total is up from $1.42 million last month.

Barstool Sportsbook took $16.7 million in June bets and has consistently dipped in Michigan market share since February, the state’s first full month of online wagering. The book started strong with a 23.9% market share in January’s first 10 days of wagering. But the book has struggled since, dropping to 13.3% in February, 11.0% in March, 9.9% in April and 7.7% in May. In June, Barstool took 7.1% of Michigan’s online sports bets.

Nearly $1.5 billion in Michigan online sports bets since January launch

In the time since launching Jan. 22, Michiganders have wagered just below $1.5 billion on sports through regulated wagering apps. Last week, a 13th sports betting operator launched in FireKeepers Sportsbook. That book actually ed a small amount of June action ($656 of handle), too. A FireKeepers representative told PlayMichigan the MGCB had approved a soft launch for the book before last week’s official rollout.

As part of the June report for Michigan sports betting handle, the month netted $24.95 million in gross revenue for Michigan sportsbooks, which paid $927,575 in state taxes for June and $518,269 in city taxes and municipal service fees for the city of Detroit. State tribal governments also earned tax revenue, but those figures aren’t released by the MGCB for sports betting.

Notably, revenue jumped 28.2% from May’s $19.46 million figure. June was the best full month in hold for Michigan’s online sports bets, as operators kept 10.5% of bets. Since January, operators have kept 8.0% of sports bets.
