MGM Grand Detroit has invested $20 million into the property to enhance the guest experience for visitors. The casino is upgrading all 400 hotel rooms, along with new gym equipment and pool cabanas.

MGM Grand Detroit celebrated its 25th anniversary with a $15 million overhaul last December. The property is following it up with even more improvements.

MGM Grand Detroit wants to be known as more than a gambling facility. Matt Buckley, President and COO of MGM Resorts Midwest Group, said in a statement emailed to PlayMichigan:

“MGM Resorts and our entire team at MGM Grand Detroit are deeply committed to enhancing the guest experience throughout all aspects of the property in an effort to drive consistent and continued visitation to the region.

“We’re proud to have played a key role in Detroit’s emergence as a premier entertainment and hospitality destination, and this next phase of investment reflects our unwavering commitment to pushing that momentum even further.”

New enhancements at casino

MGM Grand Detroit is improving multiple areas to the property. Those include:

  • All 65 hotel suites will undergo a refresh including new paint, carpet, window
  • treatments, furniture, mattresses and refrigerators.
  • All 400 hotel rooms will receive new furniture including desks, credenzas, couches,
  • mattresses and refrigerators.
  • IMMERSE Spa is updating its guest gym with new equipment and flooring while the pool space will feature new cabanas
  • The MGM Rewards desk will have a stand-alone space located near the self-parking entrances
    by the casino floor.
  • Casino upgrades will include new carpeting and a comprehensive overhaul of HVAC systems to
    ensure optimal air quality.

MGM Grand Detroit’s $15 million investment in 2024 was the biggest since 2007. The property has already sured that in six months. Buckley added in a statement:

“Our plan is simple: invest at home, our team, and deliver unparalleled experiences for our guests. We’ve kept our promise to Detroit over the last 26 years — and we’re just getting started.”

Refresher on last set of enhancements

Over the last six months, MGM Grand Detroit has upgraded several parts of the property. Back in December, the casino announced the following improvements:

  • Slot machine optimization of the casino floor where 233 new games were introduced
  • Improved sight lines, making the 100,000 square-foot casino floor easier to navigate
  • Introduced the LIT Gaming Lounge, a new gaming space spanning more than 4,500 square feet,
featuring 81 slot machines and 10 table games
  • Remodel of a former nightclub space, offering a state-of-the-art gaming environment,
including an HVAC system with a high-powered exhaust fan to maintain clean air quality
  • Relocated National Coney Island and Detroit Wing Company within Detroit Central Market and
    expanded self-service options
  • Replaced tile on the pool deck at Immerse Spa and refinished the indoor pool for improved
    aesthetics and safety
  • Renovated and refreshed employee spaces, including a 1,784-square-foot employee lounge

MGM Grand Detroit has become a top destination entertainment spot for visitors.
