The matchup between BetMGM are shades of two horses jockeying for position down the stretch run of a race. That was no different in April, after the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) released online casino figures on Tuesday.
FanDuel generated $67.6 million in revenue, while BetMGM recorded $64.9 million. The two operators helped the state produce $248.1 million last month. It is the third-highest total of all time in the Great Lakes State.
Operators broke the record in March, recording $260.5 million in earnings. The second-highest total came in January at $248.2 million.
Michigan online casinos has been the No. 2 market for more than a year, as it finished ahead of New Jersey’s total of $235.2 million. Pennsylvania is the top market, which produced an impressive $285.1 million, in a down month.
FanDuel, BetMGM deadlocked through four months
Four months into 2025, FanDuel and BetMGM have nearly identical revenue totals. BetMGM maintains a slight lead at $260.7 million to FanDuel’s $260.3 million.
FanDuel had strong months in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, which was no different in Michigan. The operator out-gained BetMGM for the second time in 2025.
FanDuel did so in February, but only by $1.4 million. In April, the platform created roughly $2.5 million in separation.
The two operators are the clear market leaders, as DraftKings came in a distant third, posting $42.5 million last month. FanDuel and BetMGM are setting up for a photo finish by the end of 2025.
Slight drop from March
March is usually a fruitful month for both online and retail casino verticals. Online taking a slight hit in April is not uncommon, neither unexpected.
Online casinos experienced a 4.8% month-over-month loss. However, the industry grew 28.6% year-over-year.
The slight drop-off from last month and the massive increase from last year indicates the vertical is still growing. It’s possible revenue could remain the same during the spring and summer months. When the sports calendar picks back up in the fall, there’s potential for platforms to break records again.
Only one operator increases revenue MoM
Since April’s revenue was below March, it’s no surprise that many operators experienced a small setback, too. However, DraftKings was the only platform to grow revenue from last month.
DraftKings generated $41.1 million in March, which improved to $42.5 million last month. While it is only a 3.4% increase, to be the only operator to claim that is an impressive feat.
DraftKings has a lot of work to do before it catches up to FanDuel and BetMGM. In the meantime, it is secured as the No. 3 operator in the Great Lakes State.
